I am the great-grandson of German immigrants who settled in Milwaukee and the rural township of Fredonia north of the city. Since 1985 I have made fifteen thousand, primarily medium format negatives in Berlin, Germany. Berlin's population demographics provide the subject matter for my project. I have photographed people in their homes, workplaces, and on the streets of the city. As an educator I have shared my Berlin work and research with numerous students since the start of my career at Edgewood. It is especially important for me to facilitate within the classroom the process of students embracing their own stories and identities.
