Art History (Individualized Major and Minor)

Students interested in Art History have the opportunity to develop an individualized major or minor with a particular focus in this field. Individualized majors and minors at Edgewood College offer students a means to craft a program of study in accord with their particular interests within an established disciplinary field, or to combine areas of academic investigation in new and exciting ways.

All art students at Edgewood College take several courses in art history; courses range from introductory surveys of ancient and medieval art, art from the Renaissance to the

late nineteenth century, modern art, and global arts to advanced courses in contemporary art, Native American art, the history of women artists, art of the United States, and art of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. The Madison area also offers students an opportunity to view art at numerous galleries and two museums, the Chazen Museum of Art on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus and the newly completed Madison Museum of Contemporary Art in Madison's Overture Center for the Arts.

Students with an interest in Art History also benefit from a variety of internship opportunities in Madison's art community. Developed in consultation with Edgewood's Professor of Art History, an individualized minor in Art History complements majors in studio art and other areas of study.
