Do you enjoy working with children? Would you like to help others become more confident with their creativity? Do you want to be an integral part of the learning process? Do you want to find the inner art spirit in each child? If you said "yes" to any of these questions, then an Art & Design Teaching major may be for you. As a teacher, you will help students to love learning and gain an appreciation for art. You will help students in their discovery of knowledge and their development of self-expression.

Art educators prepare students to incorporate the specific benefits of the visual arts into their lives: to help students recognize their interests, talents, and abilities; to gain self-esteem; to

think critically; to be creative and imaginative; to foster perceptual, sensory, and aesthetic awareness; to communicate ideas, thoughts, and feelings; and to enjoy life and grow as humans.

The Art & Design Teaching major prepares students for State licensure to teach art and design Grades K-12. Students may choose from a variety of practica and student teaching experiences in both public and private schools in Dane County and the surrounding areas. Art and Design Teaching students are invited to participate as volunteers in the state-wide Youth Art Month events, the Visual Arts Classic, and the Wisconsin Art Education Association conferences.
